Football For All: Glasnevin FC’s Heartwarming Day with the Ireland National Team

Glasnevin FC continues to shine as a beacon of community spirit, inclusion, and the incredible power of sport. This week, some of the club’s Football for All (FFA) players had a once-in-a-lifetime experience when they were invited to meet the Ireland national team in Abbotstown. Players from various local teams—including Castleknock, Finglas, Knocklyon, and Glasnevin—had the amazing opportunity to not only meet their footballing heroes but also spend a few precious minutes on the pitch with them.

One particularly heartwarming story emerged from this session. One of Glasnevin FC’s own FFA players, a non-verbal young man, had taken nearly three years to really start engaging with the ball at sessions. Recently, he’s been making fantastic progress, playing in matches and becoming more involved in training. Despite being non-verbal, he found his voice during this special session. He kept chanting “Yup Ireland,” and soon enough, the entire Irish squad—including stars like Evan Ferguson, Callum Robinson, and Dara O’Shea—were chanting along with him. It was a beautiful moment that demonstrated the unifying power of sport, with the Irish players embracing his enthusiasm and making him feel part of something bigger. It was an unforgettable day, highlighting how sport transcends words and brings people together.

This uplifting story is just one example of the fantastic work being done by Glasnevin FC and its wider community. Recently, the club’s under-15 boys and under-13 girls teams lent their support at the FFA Camp, assisting players who face daily challenges. These young helpers went above and beyond, showing extraordinary levels of empathy, maturity, and kindness that are far beyond their years. Their involvement ensured that all the kids in the FFA program had a positive and enjoyable experience at the camp.

A special thanks must also go to Beneavin De La Salle for their invaluable assistance. Their continued support and collaboration have been instrumental in making these programs possible, providing the resources and environment needed for these young players to thrive. The partnership between Glasnevin FC and Beneavin De La Salle is a shining example of how community cooperation can create life-changing opportunities for all involved.

Glasnevin FC should be incredibly proud of the culture it has fostered among its youth. The club isn’t just producing talented footballers; it’s nurturing compassionate, mature, and socially aware young men and women who are making a real difference both on and off the pitch. As we all know, the holiday season is just around the corner and what better time to deck yourself out in the finest Glasnevin FC gear or to gift to family and friends.

To ensure you receive your orders well in time for Christmas, we kindly request that all preorder sales be placed before the 17th November 2023. This will allow our suppliers adequate time to fulfill your orders, ensuring a seamless and timeless delivery.

To access the online club shop, simply visit our official Glasnevin FC page on ClubZap and click on the “Club Shop” tab. There, you will find a selection of fantastic products to choose from, all proudly adorned with our club’s crest.

Orders will be processed and a collection date will be advertised. (Orders will not be available before this date). To support this, we asks that you insert the team you child/relative/family friend is playing with or if you are ordering for more than one player, please just select one team that the order can be matched against.

Unfortunately the app will only allow you to purchase a single item at a time (or multiples of a single item). This is something we are actively working on with ClubZap.

Great Glasnevin 3 Day FFA camp completed today

Great Glasnevin 3 Day FFA camp completed today. Parents were all delighted and kids had a ball – there are very few camps for kids with additional needs, so this was very welcome by the parents.

Thanks to Conexim who sponsored the camp and whose staff volunteered their time and we hope our players got some great skill-ups from Conexim staff – incl. Jimmy Naughton who scored a great header for Ireland at this years CP Euros to knock Germany out and get to Semi Finals, David Worrell who was capped 18 times for Ireland u21s and also played professional football for many years for Plymouth Argyle and Dundee United, and James McMahon and Aisling O’Connor who have represented Monaghan and Offaly respectively at intercounty GAA. A good lineup so hopefully some good skill ups for our FFA gang.

After a fantastic season our U15 captain Harry Ryan here with coach Malachy Lynch picking up the much deserved U15 league winners cup at the Sports Campus Ireland today . It’s been a very successful season for our U15’s with winning the league and runners up in the league cup … roll on next year when the lads go on the hunt for European glory in Barcelona … onward and upwards for the Diggers
